A Step Above Dance & Music Academy

A Step Above Dance & Music Academy provides students of all ages and backgrounds with a positive arts education while helping them achieve their personal goals in the areas of dance instruction and music lessons.

We strive to provide excellent technique, self discipline and an appreciation for and love of dance and music through positive reinforcement in a non-competitive, professional atmosphere. We are located in Monona, in the Madison, Wisconsin area.

Announces their Holiday Show Auditions!

Our show will blend multiple

styles of dance in an original, heartfelt story.

 

We are looking for dancers of all ages, levels and styles! 

 

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at A Step Above

Ages 5-9                        5:00-5:45 p.m.

Ages 10-14                    5:45-6:30 p.m.

Ages 15-Adult            6:30-7:15 p.m.

 

OR

 

Saturday, May 31, 2014 at A Step Above

    Ages 5-9                        12:00-12:45 p.m.

  Ages 10-14                    12:45-1:30 p.m.

Ages15-Adult              1:30-2:15 p.m.

This Holiday Show will benefit 1-2 charities yet to be determined. 

Performances will be on Saturday, December 13, 2014

All auditions will involve ballet, jazz, lyrical and tap combinations.   All dancers are asked to try all combinations even if they don’t have training in all styles.

If a dancer wishes to take part in our show but cannot make an audition please contact our office for your options.

Bring a recent non-returnable photo.

There will be a $20 non-refundable audition fee

If the performer is under 18 years old a parental signature is required on the audition form.

We just competed at our last competition of the season.  We have had a wonderful season and are so proud of all the dancers and their hard work.  The results are:

Forevermore received a platinum and 5th overall.

Love Lockdown received a 1st place platinum, 2nd overall, Beautiful Control award and Standout dancer.

If I Loved You received a platinum and Standout dancer.

Brave received a high gold and Hybrid award.

Stuck on you received a 1st place platinum, 3rd overall and Standout dancer.

Les Nubbiennes received a platinum.

Mr Saxobeat received a high gold and the Rolling with the Punches award.

Take My Breathe Away received a 1st place platinum, 4th overall, the Solid as a Rock, Light as a Feather award and Standout dancer.

Martyr received a 3rd place platinum and Standout dancer.

Not for the Life of Me received a high gold.

Radiance received a platinum.

We intertwine received a platinum and 5th place overall.

Into the West received a 1st place platinum and 3rd overall.

Congrats to Love lockdown for getting 2nd, Stuck on ou for getting 4th and Satellite for getting 8th out of the entire weekend of dances.

A Step Above has a great weekend at Tremaine in St. Louis

A Step Beyond dancers, their parents and 5 teachers spent this past weekend at Treamine Dance Convention in St. Louis.  Not only did our dancers get to take classes from wonderful, professionals but they also did a fantastic job competing!  We are so proud of all of our dancers!

Audition results: Meghann Armstrong, Kate Huskey, Eliza Kuhlow, Allie Kunesh, Tara Sherchok, and Hayley Stoneman all made it to the Jazz round of auditions.  Everdina LaBarge and Anna Mischio made it to the finals.  Holly Korfmacher received a scholarship.

Today our soloists and duets competed at the Dreamstar competition in Middleton.  They were all beautiful and we are very proud.  Here are the results!

Soloists Rock Jump

Last weekend 3 of our soloists competed at Jump Dance Competition in Chicago.  They were wonderful and we are proud.  The results are:

Rebecca Arends Master Class

We are very excited to have Rebecca Arends return to our studio to teach a master class on

Sunday March 2nd from 3:00 pm-6:00pm at A Step Above.

Class will consist of 1 hour and 45 minutes of contemporary/modern technique followed by 1 hour and 15 minutes of Sean Curran Company repertoire.  This is a great opportunity for our students to take class with a fantastic dancer, choreographer and teacher.  

Students must be age 12+ and in Intermediate Ballet/Jazz III to participate and know that class will move at a fast but fun pace.

Tuition will be $65 per dancer and if we have less than 10 dancers by February 22nd, the class will be cancelled.  To register please click here or call our desk at 221-4243.

Cedric Gardner Master Class August 4

Hip Hop master class with Cedric Gardner will be on August 4, 2013.

 $25 for ages 12+ -- Noon to 1:30 pm

$20 for ages 7-11 -- 2-3 pm.

Cedric Gardner is from So You Think You Can Dance, Step Up 3D, dancing with The Black Eyed Peas, iCarly, Fresh Beat Band, Yo Gabba Gabba, and The Voice!

Cedric considers his dance style and technique to be “freestyle,” under the umbrella of multiple dance styles. He calls his style of dancing, emotion-driven; expressing emotions through dance.  Class will consist of technique and choreography.
